Costa Blanca
The white shore of the Alicante province, from Calpe to Pilar de la Horadada. Sandy beaches, palm-lined promenades and an airport within an hour's drive.
The Costa Blanca is the best-known stretch of Spain's Mediterranean coastline. Torrevieja with its two salt lakes, Gran Alacant looking out over the Sierra de Santa Pola, Orihuela Costa with its string of coves, and Calpe beneath the Peñón de Ifach. The climate makes it a year-round destination — January often reaches fifteen degrees, and the swimming season runs from May to October.
Low-cost airlines serve Alicante-Elche from most European cities, and the drive from the airport to our apartments takes between twenty minutes and an hour.
Beaches and coves
The Alicante coastline is not one beach but dozens of very different ones. Torrevieja and Guardamar have wide sandy entrances with lifeguards and showers — the kind you go to with a child and a parasol. Orihuela Costa is a string of small coves between rocks, where the water is clear and there are fewer people.
Most of our apartments are within walking distance of the water. For each one, the "Nearby" section gives the distance to the closest beach, measured by road rather than as the crow flies.
Getting there
The nearest airport is Alicante-Elche. Low-cost airlines serve it from most European cities, and outside the peak season the fares are often surprisingly low.
The drive from the airport to our apartments takes between twenty minutes and an hour. The AP-7 motorway runs parallel to the coast, so getting there is straightforward even if it is your first time driving in Spain. When to come
The swimming season runs from May to October, but that is not the whole of the year worth being here. January often reaches fifteen degrees in full sun — for anyone escaping a grey winter, that is a very different proposition from July.
July and August are the most expensive and the most crowded. September is our pick: the water is at its warmest of the year and the beaches are already empty. Prices in our apartments drop noticeably then, and you can see it directly in the calendar on every listing.
The towns we know
Torrevieja is alive all year and has two salt lakes, one of which turns pink. Gran Alacant sits higher up, looking out over the Sierra de Santa Pola, with a breeze that makes all the difference in summer. Guardamar del Segura hides behind a belt of pine forest on the dunes. Calpe stands beneath the Peñón de Ifach, visible from every balcony in town.
