LAS FUENTES DEL ALGAR (Les Fonts d’Algar in Valecian) are located near Callosa d’en Sarrià – small town with the remains of medieval buildings, situated in Alicante province. It constitute a picturesque natural site with an exceptional ecological wealth and endowed with tourist services and environmental education.
Here the Algar river (cave in Arabic) has modeled a limestone karst landscape that currently consists of the spectacular waterfalls, the numerous springs that spring from the rock, the “tolls” (pools of water) where crowds of tourists take refreshing baths on hot summer days with pure and crystalline waters. These cascades and reservoirs of water are surrounded by lush and exotic vegetation. The economic importance of the waters of this river for the local community can be seen admiring for example the old dam, the imposing canal and the centuries-old ditches still in use today.
The visit in this place consists of a 1.5 km long circuit along the course of the Algar river. There are also Arboretum and educational nature trail and for the convenience of visitors are there too tourist office, picnic area, first aid, toilets, numerous parking areas, restaurants and souvenir shops.
